The Problem
"We have never been more connected and never more lonely. 1 in 4 adults worldwide report chronic loneliness — a mortality risk equivalent to smoking fifteen cigarettes a day. The most reliable answer is also the simplest: skip the small talk and have the conversation that actually matters. The skill is learnable, and this course teaches it."

Adapted from Kalina Silverman's Big Talk (Tarcher / Penguin Random House, 2026) and built as an academic companion at Stellenbosch University.

Common questions

FAQ

Do I need to have read Silverman's book first?
No — the Course Notes are written as full standalone summaries. Reading the book is optional enrichment, not a prerequisite.
Is this only for extroverts?
Not at all. Big Talk is about the quality of conversation, not the quantity. Many of the tools work especially well for introverts who already prefer depth over breadth.
How is this different from FlourishTalk's card decks?
FlourishTalk gives you the questions to ask. The Big Talk Course teaches you the skill of asking them. Together they form a complete practice — see Note 22 for the full pairing matrix.
